As we move into warmer months, the health and safety of our gymnasts, coaches, and staff is our top priority. Please ensure the following heat safety measures are followed during all training sessions.
1. Hydration
All gymnasts must bring a clearly labelled water bottle to every class.
Coaches should allow regular water breaks every 15–20 minutes.
Encourage gymnasts to sip water consistently, not just during breaks.
Cold water jugs will be available in the gym for refilling bottles.
2. Clothing
Gymnasts must wear shortsleeve training leotard, instead of long-sleeved leotards.
Hair should be tied up neatly to help stay cool.
3. Environment & Air Circulation
Fans, ventilation, and air conditioning must be switched on prior to training.
If conditions become excessively hot, reduce activity intensity or rotate gymnasts through cooler areas.
Keep roller doors open where appropriate for airflow.
4. Session Modifications
Avoid prolonged time on equipment with heat-retaining surfaces (e.g., beam, bars) during peak heat.
Reduce high-intensity cardio or conditioning during extreme heat.
Focus on skills, flexibility, and technical work rather than endurance.
Schedule breaks in shaded or cooler areas when possible.
5. Signs of Heat Stress
All staff should watch for early signs of heat-related illness:
-Dizziness or headache
-Nausea or vomiting
-Fatigue or confusion
-Muscle cramps
-Pale or flushed skin
👉 If a gymnast shows any symptoms:
-Stop activity immediately
-Move them to a cool room like the office
-Provide ice pack
-Notify a senior coach or manager and contact parents
6. Extreme Weather Response
If the temperature or heat index exceeds 38°C inside the gym:
Training intensity must be significantly reduced, or sessions may be cancelled.
Decisions will be communicated via TeamApp and email as early as possible.
7. Communication
-All staff are responsible for ensuring these procedures are followed and communicated to parents.
-Parents are encouraged to advise staff if their child is sensitive to heat or has any relevant medical conditions.
Thank you for helping us keep all gymnasts safe and comfortable during hot weather.
